Fear this morning in Milan, in the City Life area, where one of the two imposing signs with the inscription “Generali” positioned on the roof of the insurance company's skyscraper suddenly tilted, hovering in a dangerous position. Firefighters with three teams were on the scene to carry out initial stability checks, in cooperation with the company's engineers. According to a first analysis, the risk of a vertical collapse would be ruled out: the sign, in case of failure, should collapse within the perimeter of the terrace, thus limiting potential damage. The causes of the accident are still being investigated. Among the hypotheses under consideration, a possible structural failure of the steel beams supporting the sign is not ruled out. For safety reasons, the entire skyscraper has been declared uninhabitable and the area below has been promptly cordoned off and transennaded. Pedestrian passage was interdicted and the Three Towers stop of the M5 subway was also closed as a precautionary measure. The sign in question, a massive steel structure weighing about 170 tons, had been positioned 177 meters high thanks to the use of a crane during the installation phase on the skyscraper, one of the symbols of the urban redevelopment of City Life.
