The Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium returned to the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York to strengthen its presence in the leading foreign market, the United States, which in 2024 absorbed 22.5% of total exports with over 16,000 tons (+13.4% over 2023). Despite fears of new duties imposed by Trump - increased from 15% to 25% - demand remains stable and the sell-out grows by +9% in the first four months of 2025. The retail price in the U.S. has already reached $49/kg, but could exceed $55 in early 2026. The Consortium expresses concern, but is confident of EU negotiating action and constructive dialogue with U.S. stakeholders. Present at the Javits Center, the Consortium organized trade meetings, tastings and an evening event at the Peak with President Nicola Bertinelli and important Italian institutional figures. “The possible increase in duties on Parmigiano Reggiano certainly does not cheer us,” Bertinelli said, "but ours is a premium product and we will do everything possible so that the price increase does not lead to a substantial reduction in consumption”.
