At 12:47 p.m. today, Naples and the Campi Flegrei area had a magnitude 4.6 earthquake. The epicenter was in the Bacoli area, although the earthquake was felt throughout the capital, including Centro Direzionale and the train station area. At the present, there have been no damages or injuries. The firefighters have not received any requests for assistance. However, a portion of the ridge of the Pennata islet in the Gulf of Pozzuoli collapsed as a result of the earthquake. As a precaution, some schools were evacuated, which temporarily disrupted the final exam oral tests. Civil Protection has confirmed that a seismic swarm is underway, with the major event occurring at sea. The train traffic at the Naples hub was immediately halted, as per the standard procedure for quakes greater than magnitude 4.0. Connections to Metro Line 2 and the local Cumana and Circumflegrea railroads are suspended. However, trains from Rome to the south continue to depart on a regular basis. The Municipality of Naples has reported that no serious issues have been identified in the city. The recorded accelerations did not compromise the stability of buildings. The Municipal Operations Center has been activated and is ready to respond if necessary. As a precaution, the Civil Protection has set up waiting spaces in Bagnoli and Agnano, as well as a welcome area on Via Terracina. Citizens are encouraged to follow only official communications.
