During a video message at the 2025 Assarmatori Meeting, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced the start of work on the definition of the new 2026-2028 Sea Plan, which will follow the three-year document approved by the government two years ago for the period 2023-2025. “We have achieved many important results," the PM said, "but there is still much to be done”. The new plan will take a more pragmatic approach to goals, aiming for an effective synthesis between international, European and national regulations. The intent, Meloni explained, is to offer industry operators clearer and more streamlined rules, avoiding regulatory overlaps that penalize business competitiveness. In her speech, Meloni also emphasized the commitment of the Interministerial Committee for Maritime Policies in defining a European maritime industrial strategy, with the aim of strengthening the continent's shipyards in the face of growing Asian competition-a challenge on which, she recalled, "the European Commission is also working”.
