A post on a local Facebook group, a request for road maintenance, an anonymous comment laden with insults: this was enough to set off a case of cyberbullying that engulfed Lecco City Council alderman Alessandra Durante. It all started with a citizen's report on the condition of the sidewalk near the wall rampart in the Largo Montenero area. Among the responses to the post, one signed by “Anonymous member 582” appeared: a personal attack, made of derision and gratuitous accusations. But it wasn't long before the group's administrators discovered the true identity of the author: it was indeed Councillor Durante, a member of Mayor Mauro Gattinoni's Council, with delegations to Digital, Family, Youth, Communication and Citizen Relations. The affair quickly caused a stir, not least because of the administration's own stated commitment to digital education. Not surprisingly, it was Durante herself who publicly apologized via Instagram: “It is incumbent upon me to apologize to the citizen to whom I responded in a bullying and rude manner, anonymously, under a post that simply asked for maintenance,” she wrote. "I am not looking for justifications. Whatever the motivation was, it cannot justify the tone I used. I also apologize to all the citizens who have worked with me over the years on the digital issue. I fell into what we ourselves consider behaviors to be curbed on social media". The apology, however, was not enough: on Monday evening, Alessandra Durante submitted her resignation.
