Tesla sales in the Italian market are now also in a frightening slump. In June, registrations fell 66.01% to 1,697 units, a far larger drop than the figures recorded in the European Union (-27.9% in May). As data published by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport show, the drop in Italy follows the decline in May (-20.32%) and the rise in April (+29.28%) and March (+51.3%). Thus, the balance for the first six months of the year is negative, with 6,468 registrations, down 36.16% compared to the same period in 2024. In the whole of 2024, the electric car giant's registrations were down 5.91%. The June figure seems to show a general distancing from the U.S. manufacturer's car brand and follows the most heated period of the former Donald Trump's right-hand man's forays into European political debate. But it is clear that the meltdown also reflects the new European competitive environment, with competitive pressure from Chinese - made electric cars. In addition to Byd - which more than tenfold increased its sales surpassing Tesla-MG Motor, a group controlled by the giant Saic Motor, registered 4,146 cars in Italy in June (+4.04%, with a six-month total of +37.75%). Up from 25 in June 2024, Omoda/Jaecoo also registered 1,297 cars.
