Giovanni Zippo, the 40-year-old vigilante arrested for the explosion that destroyed a building in Turin's Lingotto neighborhood on Monday, is guarded by the Police while hospitalized. He left one person dead and five injured, including a six-year-old girl. According to the investigation, Zippo allegedly tried to set fire to the apartment of his former partner, Madalina Ionela Hagiu, who was vacationing on Elba Island with her boyfriend at the time. Instead, it was Jacopo Peretti, 33, a neighbor completely unrelated to the incident, who died. The vigilante, who was severely burned, was operated on at the Turin CTO's Burn Center. After the explosion he had been seen walking away with his face disfigured and bleeding, without calling for help - a detail that emerged only later. Investigations revealed that Zippo had entered the building at night carrying a bottle of flammable liquid. Saturday triggered the arrest by the Mobile Squad, in execution of a pre-trial detention order for murder and arson collapse. Decisive, in addition to testimony from family members and colleagues, were surveillance camera images.
