The violent thunderstorm that hit northern Italy on Sunday claimed one life in the Upper Milanese area. Losing her life was a 63-year-old woman from San Vittore Olona, who was swept away by a tree that fell due to strong winds in the Cascina Induno wooded area in Robecchetto. Also involved in the accident were a 68-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man, both of whom were transported to the hospital in serious but not serious condition. After days of scorching heat, with temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius, bad weather brought a sudden drop in temperature in Lombardy, followed by a quick return of sunshine. In Milan, a violent cloudburst darkened the sky, accompanied by lightning and gusts of wind: as a precaution, fenced parks had already been closed and the Seveso containment tank activated. Meanwhile in the South, the heat wave gives no respite, with perceived temperatures as high as 44 degrees in Foggia. Italy thus remains torn between thunderstorms and mugginess.
