There are 30 armored vehicles that the Italian army wants to get rid of by giving them to Somalia. The VBL Puma 4x4s - explains an official note - are obsolete from a technical point of view, “as they entered the logistics cycle in the 1990s”, that is, “they belong to a segment of the vehicle fleet that is now outdated and obsolete as they do not meet the modern operational needs of the Italian Army, which has started replacement processes with more advanced platforms”. Not only that, "Technical limitations and the lack of protection capabilities adequate to current threats have made it necessary to withdraw them from active service, in favor of vehicles such as the "Lynx" that offer superior performance in terms of protection, mobility and versatility". The Chamber gave a favorable opinion on the divestment in favor of the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF). And on the other hand, the UN Security Council approved Resolution No. 2713, which provides for “the lifting of the arms sale embargo against the Government of Somalia, confirming the country's progress in security”.
