Five euros to access one of the most photographed spots in the Dolomites. This is the provocation put in place by a farmer in Val Gardena, exasperated by the increasing flow of tourists invading the area's trails every day. The turnstile, similar to those found in public restrooms or at stadium entrances, was installed along the path leading to a famous viewpoint on the Odle peaks, within the Puez-Odle Nature Park. The initiative was immediately blocked by the Province of Bolzano, but it has since sparked a heated debate, especially on social media. Raising the issue was the President of CAI Alto Adige, Carlo Alberto Zanella, who in a post denounced the introduction of the toll: “News from Val Gardena: now you also pay the toll on the trails. One of the most photographed trails in the Dolomites overrun by bad-mannered people, influencers, youtubers and instagrammers. The result of a form of tourism that is also politically intentional". More than an attempt to make a profit, the owner's gesture seems to be a form of symbolic protest. The man, in fact, said he was fed up with the damage caused by mass tourism: trampled lawns, abandoned garbage, no respect for nature. This is not the first time that such incidents have occurred in the area: already a few years ago, another farmer had installed a turnstile to limit the onslaught of visitors to the famous St. Magdalena church in Val di Funes.
