Neodemos, the journal of Italian demographers, presented a study that indicated a rapid and significant shift in university students' emotional and sexual patterns. Comparing statistically representative samples of twenty-year-old students interviewed in three surveys done in 2023, 2017, and 2000, the study discovered that homosexuality is now considerably more acceptable among young Italians, and non-heterosexual behavior is far more prevalent than in the past. The findings reveal that women are increasingly interested in homosexual experiences. In fifteen years, homosexual experiences among male students increased from 6.3% to 7.1%, while among female students they increased from 4.3% to 14.6%. However, the most recent poll shows that these rates are substantially increasing. One out of every ten first-year students at the universities of Bologna, Milan Bicocca, and Padua identify as non-heterosexual.
