At the International Conference for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, hosted in the Italian capital, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced commitments of more than ten billion euros. “This conference is intended to be the starting point for a real Ukrainian miracle,” she said at the opening of the proceedings, emphasizing the central role Italy intends to play at this crucial stage. While addressing the plenary session, Meloni highlighted the birth of a new European Equity investment fund, which is also the result of Italy's decisive contribution. "The message we want to send to entrepreneurs today is clear: do not be afraid to invest, to build, to rebuild in Ukraine. This is not a gamble, but an investment in peace, security and economic growth for all of Europe," the Prime Minister explained. Meloni wanted to emphasize how the “Italian system” can make a difference in the post-conflict recovery phase by leveraging the country's know-how, skills and entrepreneurial capacity. She also reiterated the government's willingness to ensure that reconstruction resources do not end up in the hands of those who supported Russian aggression. “As also indicated in the G7 Finance Ministers' Declaration, it is crucial to exclude from any benefits those entities that helped finance the Russian war machine,” she said. Regarding the situation on the ground, Meloni denounced the continued intensification of Russian attacks against civilian infrastructure. "The goal is always the same: to bend the Ukrainian people with hunger, cold and fear. But this plan has failed," she said. “It has failed because the Ukrainian people proved stronger than anyone could have imagined, and because the international community was able to respond firmly, ensuring the necessary support to guarantee essential services”. Finally, Meloni stressed the symbolic and political importance of the large attendance at the conference, which represents a strong signal of unity and common commitment: "Today we are here to do our part. Let us look beyond the injustice that has been affecting Ukraine for more than three years, and let us start building a future made of schools, hospitals, churches, roads and bridges. A free and prosperous future".
