A month after his bitter defeat at Roland Garros, Jannik Sinner has finally achieved the definitive revenge by defeating Carlos Alcaraz and making history by becoming the first Italian to win Wimbledon. Following the match, the world number one expressed his thoughts in a press conference: "This is truly a special moment. Before this match, I never imagined I'd be playing to win this trophy. It is a dream come true. I'd like to thank my team and everyone who helped me on this memorable day. You give me so much". A thought went to his opponent, Alcaraz: "I'd like to congratulate Carlos: you played an incredible tournament; thank you for being the great player you are. It’s really tough to face you. We will continue to strengthen our relationship off the court while keeping the rivalry alive on the court". Sinner does not forget those who have supported him on this journey, beginning with his family: "I must thank my parents and my crew. A special thanks to my brother, who was here today because there was no Formula 1"—a detail that sets this moment apart from the final in Rome, where his brother wasn’t present. The champion then makes an emotional reference to his loss in Paris: "The Roland Garros final was extremely difficult; I wasted four match points. But in significant tournaments, whether you win or lose, you must forget the past and move on. That is one of the reasons I am here today, holding this trophy. In the last game, I served really well, and I’m very happy about that. In a best-of-five match, every moment can turn the match around". He also makes a sarcastic reference to the traditional "flying cork" of champagne on the court: "Things can only happen at Wimbledon, which is why it's so enjoyable to play here. It's a difficult tournament, but even if I can attend as a member, I intend to continue traveling the world with my profession". After leaving the court, Sinner warmly greeted the Italian fans and the entire nation, saying, "You are the ones who give me the strength to keep on. Italy is a country that deserves so much, and I am very proud to be Italian and represent it. I always try to give all that I have, and your encouragement means everything". He went on to say, "The value of the people close to me is essential. My family was present today, which made things much more emotional. Thank you, everyone. See you in Italy!". Sinner shared an interesting behind-the-scenes anecdote with Darren Cahill during the press conference: "We made a bet before the final: if I won, I'd decide whether he could stay on my team at the end of the year. Now the decision is mine!". Speaking about his coach, Sinner explained: "I have always looked for an honest person who offers me so much, not just on the court, but also in life, in both wins and failures. And he’s great at that. If I continue to work with him, he will most likely travel less, and that’s only natural". Here’s the champion’s final message: "I told him I'd like to have him join me in Australia since things are going nicely. But the season is still lengthy; there are numerous competitions, and I will see him several times... But I won my bet, so now we wait and see!”.
