An afternoon spent with friends ended tragically in Busche, a hamlet of Cesiomaggiore in the Belluno region. Three 15-year-old girls had arrived at a little beach on the Piave River, a renowned summer destination known for its serenity and stunning surroundings. There, they climbed the pylon of an old, unused bridge, situated against a rock face overlooking the river, possibly motivated by a desire to immortalize the event with a beautiful shot. Suddenly, a massive boulder broke free from the cliff above. According to initial reports, the collapse could have been caused by the girls themselves. The boulder struck one of the girls, crashing her to the ground; there was nothing that could be done to save her. The second girl was severely hurt, with multiple fractures, but her life is not in danger. The third girl, amazingly unscathed, managed to flee in time. Rescue operations were fast: the ambulance from the Santa Maria del Prato hospital in Feltre, the 118 air ambulance, the firefighters from Belluno and Feltre—who arrived in a rubber dinghy, initially fearing that the victim had fallen into the river—and the Carabinieri responded to the scene, where they immediately launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. The medical examiner, who arrived shortly after, could only confirm the young girl’s death.
