A good sense of direction is not one of the primary qualities of Italian drivers. According to a survey conducted by the Sara Assicurazioni Observatory, more than half of those polled (53%) admitted to frequently taking wrong turns despite using a GPS device for navigation. In this context, a shocking 7% admit always getting lost. When faced with a route error, attitudes vary: 37% seek assistance from passersby, 36% revert to the navigation system, and 20% prefer to improvise. However, technology is no longer restricted to navigation apps. 57% of Italians want a more modern vehicle with driver assistance features, connectivity, voice controls, and high-quality audio. As a result, the car interior is increasingly seen as a personal space: 65% listen to music, 29% make hands-free calls, and 20% use it to reflect. Telematics solutions, such as black boxes that track position, speed, and driving behavior, are also gaining popularity. Among the services that were deemed most useful were distraction detection (43%), theft localization (43%), immediate assistance in the event of an accident (37%), and weather alerts (20%). The driving force behind these technologies is not just convenience, but also the need for safer and more informed driving (48%), which has the potential to save on fuel and insurance (43%), as well as enhance driving style (24%).
