Excellent healthcare in Italy is still centered mostly in the center and north. This is revealed in the Sole 24 Ore ranking of "super hospitals," compiled using data from the Ministry of Health: 19 of the top 21 facilities are located above Rome. The South has only two top-tier facilities, compared to 12 in the North and 7 in the center. The list is topped by three Lombardy hospitals: Galeazzi in Milan (145.3 points), Humanitas in Rozzano (129.3), and San Raffaele (94.6). Scores are based on average caseload (DRG) and geographical attractiveness, which refers to the ability to attract patients from other parts of Italy. The ranking is topped by Lombardy, which has five hospitals, followed by Veneto and Tuscany, which each have three hospitals, and Lazio, which has the same number of facilities—all of which are located in Rome. Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Liguria, and Puglia all have at least one center of excellence. The highest-ranking Southern hospital appears at number 14: the Colli Hospital in Naples. The other hospital in the south is the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza in San Giovanni Rotondo (Foggia).
