The first public library for homeless people has been opened in Milan. The place was inaugurated a few days ago and the first to appreciate the books made available to everyone were the approximately two hundred guests of the soup kitchen run by Caritas Ambrosiana. The new library, named after Ayad - a street artist and guest of the soup kitchen who died prematurely - presents itself as a place to “nourish the mind, rediscover passions, stimulate curiosity and feel again an active part of society”, writes the paper La Repubblica. Ayad's works, displayed among the shelves, tell the soul of a space designed to welcome and inspire, where people can engage in reading books and newspapers, including in multiple languages, take Italian classes, use wifi-connected computers to access multimedia content, read digital books or listen to music.
