The CSES-02 (China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite-02) satellite, the second in the CSES series and the result of cooperation between the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the China National Space Administration (CNSA), is in orbit. A large Italian scientific component is participating in the mission, with universities and research centers. The objective of the mission is to observe and analyze phenomena related to extreme geophysical events such as earthquakes, as well as atmospheric and space weather phenomena such as geomagnetic storms and high-energy solar particles. Data from the mission will be made available to the international community. Specifically on board the satellite is the HEPD-02 (High-Energy Particle Detector) apparatus, a high-energy particle detector designed to study cosmic rays.
