Webuild, an Italian construction giant, announced that its U.S. subsidiary Lane has been granted a contract to design and build expansion and modernization work along Interstate 85 (I-85) in Gaston County, North Carolina. The contract is valued at $337 million. The North Carolina Department of Transportation commissioned the new project, which will cover roughly 16 kilometers (4.1 miles) of Interstate 85 (I-85) between the intersections with NC 7 (Exit 23) and NC 273 (Exit 27). Once completed by 2029, the work—which will be carried out without interfering with traffic and minimizing interruptions along the whole highway corridor—will ensure safer and more efficient connectivity for the entire region. In 2024, the United States constituted 12% of the company's turnover for the group managed by Pietro Salini, constituting the third market after Italy (33%), and Australia (26%).
