Florentine youth remain attached to home. This is confirmed by the Municipality of Florence’s statistical bulletin (July 2025), with data updated as of December 31, 2024. Among Italians aged 18 to 40, 52.4% live away from home, with the remaining 47.6% still living with their parents. Women are more self-sufficient: by the age of 40, 55.8% had left their parents' house, compared to 49% for men. The situation is markedly different for their overseas counterparts: 88.9% live independently (90.2% women, 87.5% men), owing primarily to migration and work-related factors. Compared to 2023, the percentage of those leaving home has reduced, due to high rents. The trend is more pronounced among Italian women and men, while foreign males exhibit a slight increase. Leaving the nest remains difficult: at 25, just 5% live alone, and at 35, less than one-third are self-sufficient. In Sweden, barely 2% of people aged 25 to 34 still live with their parents. In Florence, instead, Monte Morello is still often admired from the family window.
