In 2024, the online second-hand market contributed to the Italian economy by generating an added value of €1.4 billion. By choosing secondhand products, 63% of Italian consumers spent €2.5 billion and saved €3.2 billion. By 2025, the value of the industry is estimated to reach €2.6 billion. "These figures speak of a solid and maturing market that has gone from a niche to a mainstream reality. And these products are no longer considered a second choice", explains Pushpin Singh, managing economist. The change can be explained by the affordability of used items in a period of high inflation and stagnant wages: for technology, for example, 52% of Italians say that for savings reasons they would be unlikely to choose a new product if the secondhand alternative was not available. On the other hand, there is a growing availability of secondhand alternatives and a wider range of categories in Italy today.
