Pope Leo XIV paid a visit to the elderly at the "Santa Marta" retirement home at Castel Gandolfo. The pontiff was warmly received by the nuns. Accompanied by the mother superior, Leo XIV paused in prayer in the chapel. Upon his departure, he personally greeted approximately 20 elderly women residing in the facility - all of whom were between the ages of 80 and 101 - and had a conversation with both the women and the nuns. "Age is irrelevant: it is Jesus who wants to draw near to us, who comes as a guest to us, who calls us to be witnesses, regardless of our age", stated the Pope. "You are signs of hope," he concluded, "you have given so much in life" and "continue to be this witness of prayer, of faith”, a family offering to the Lord what it has. They ended by praying the Our Father together.
