Isotta Fraschini Motori (IFM), a Fincantieri subsidiary that specializes in advanced fuel cell technologies and a historic Made in Italy brand, has inaugurated a new production line at its Bari shipyard. This line is dedicated to the development and testing of hydrogen fuel cell systems, backed by a €30 million investment. The new production line is a strategic investment with applications in both civil and defense industries. The systems that have been developed will be employed for naval and land-based solutions, thereby significantly contributing to the decarbonization of industry and transportation. One of the initial applications is the marine fuel cell module manufactured by IFM, which will be installed on the Viking Libra, the world's first cruise ship that is propelled by hydrogen, used both for propulsion and electricity generation. This is a tangible illustration of the Fincantieri Group's capacity to be a pioneer in the development of its own solutions, as it has implemented a vertical integration model that accelerates the introduction of zero-emission technologies and fortifies its industrial leadership in the ecological transition.
