“As representatives of the Christian and Jewish communities in Bologna, children of the One Peaceful and Merciful God, and by recognizing all of us as brothers, we unite our voices aware of the gravity of the present hour and the moral responsibility that unites us as believers and as citizens”. This is what was said in a joint statement by the Archbishop of Bologna, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi and the President of the Jewish Community of Bologna, Daniele De Paz “On the War in Gaza and the Common Responsibility for Peace”. "In the face of the devastation of the war in the Gaza Strip we say with one voice: stop everyone. Silence the weapons, the military operations in Gaza and the firing of rockets into Israel. Let the hostages be freed and the bodies returned. Let the hungry be fed and the wounded be provided with care. Let humanitarian corridors be allowed. Let there be an end to the occupation of land intended for others. Let there be a return to the path of dialogue, the only alternative to destruction. Let violence be condemned". “Whoever kills one man kills the whole world”, reads the text again, whose signatories stress that "No security will ever be built on hatred. Justice for the Palestinian people, like security for the Israeli people, comes only through mutual recognition, respect for fundamental rights and a willingness to talk to each other. We reject any form of anti-Semitism, Islamophobia or Christianophobia that exploits pain and only sows further hatred".
