Milan city increasingly a red dot for the heat that spares no neighborhood. The 49 thermographs taken by Legambiente on July 15 and 16 past in the two Milanese neighborhoods of Corvetto, in the southeast quadrant, and Argonne, in the east, recorded ambient temperatures ranging from 30°C to nearly 40°C, resulting in surface temperatures peaking at 76.5°C and 85.6°C. Also of concern is the sporadic nature of tree-lined avenues especially in Corvetto. This is what emerges in a nutshell from Legambiente's new monitoring. According to a recent study by Imperial College London and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, rising temperatures were responsible for an estimated 317 excess deaths earlier this summer in Milan, first in Europe for heat-related deaths.
