58% of Italians are saving—the highest figure in the past twenty years. The category of savers who accumulate with specific objectives (e.g., for a home, children, or retirement age) is gaining ground in comparison to those who save for precautionary reasons. Homes remain the cornerstone of Italian wealth, with roughly 80% owning or purchasing one at some point in their life. Bonds remain the preferred financial instrument and, while stocks remain marginal, managed savings products have made a comeback over the past year. Security is a top priority for savers. These are the primary findings of the 2025 Survey on Italian Savings and Financial Choices, performed by Intesa Sanpaolo and the Einaudi Foundation. "Italy confirms its position in Europe as one of the largest sources of savings", observed banker Gian Maria Gros-Pietro, president of Intesa Sanpaolo, to Il Sole 24 Ore. "And Europe, in turn, is one of the world's largest, with a total value of €33 trillion. However, each year, €300 billion is used to fund foreign economies across the Atlantic".
