Over €100 billion. That’s the value of the U.S. market for Italian exports, including both direct and indirect flows, according to an analysis by the National Confederation of Italian Farmers (CNA). Consequently, the tariff issue has a substantial impact on the export turnover of Made in Italy, and small businesses are the most vulnerable to the US market in terms of exposure. Last year, direct exports to the United States totaled €67 billion, with indirect exports approaching €40 billion, according to a CNA analysis. The largest exports are intermediate items, primarily from the mechanical, fashion, and agri-food sectors. The automobile component market alone generates roughly €7 billion per year. The American market accounts for 10.4% of total Italian exports, but for small manufacturing enterprises (9 billion euros), the share rises to 14%, and when indirect flows (about 10 billion euros) are included, it reaches nearly 18% altogether.
