“Cirò Classico” has become an Italian excellence recognized and protected at the European level. The EU Commission has in fact granted protection to the Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) “Cirò Classico”, approving its registration as a PDO in the EU register. "The Geographical Indications system is the way forward to have the work of our farmers, products and territories recognized as being of the right value. Italy is confirmed as a leader in quality. The registration of Cirò Classico among the excellences protected at the European level is yet another recognition of the strength and value of our production system. Wine is a pillar of Made in Italy, and Calabria is a land that in recent years has demonstrated a renewed ability to promote itself by putting quality at the center. Today Italy boasts more than 890 PDO, PGI, TSG and GI products: a heritage that represents a boast, but also a responsibility, on which the Meloni government has been carrying out a clear commitment from the very first moment". Thus the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida. Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin “Cirò Classico” wines are produced in the entire administrative territory of the municipalities of Cirò and Cirò Marina. The district, belonging to the altimetrical zone of the coastal hill, develops from the level of sea to a maximum height of 462 meters and represents the place of the oldest presence of the vine in the entire area. The wine produced is ruby red in color with an intense and complex bouquet and a full-bodied, harmonious and persistent flavor, which tends to become increasingly velvety with aging. It is in fact appreciated for the intensity and complexity of its fragrance, with red fruit aromas and specific spicy notes. This sensory profile is typically linked to the influence that the Gaglioppo vine, perfectly set in the Cypriot territory, receives from the microclimate of the production area, which is characterized by the sedimentary origin of the soils, rich in skeleton and mineral availability, together with a climatic condition strongly influenced by the mountain massif to the West and the sea to the East. The specification for “Cirò Classico” is available on the page dedicated to Italian PDO and PGI wines on the MASAF website.
