The Syracuse Book House has been recognized as a “collective cultural heritage” and has thus entered the roll of Italy's historic bookstores. Since 1930 it has been instrumental in training generations of readers. Today it is run by Marilia Di Giovanni, granddaughter of the founder, who honors its history with valuable initiatives. Enjoying the proximity of the majestic Greek Theater and the National Institute of Ancient Drama, it offers the opportunity for actors, teachers, students and the public to dialogue about the meaning of the plays performed. Marilia is among the creators and leader of a network of Mediterranean bookshops (Mediterranean Network of Indie Bookshops) that share projects and support each other. Priority is to defend cultural identity and plurality of opinions.
