In 2024, GDP increased uniformly throughout the nation, with the exception of the Northeast, which experienced a slower growth rate (+0.2%, compared to +0.9% in other regions). This is what Istat discovered in its preliminary estimates of GDP and regional employment. GDP growth in Southern Italy was +0.9%, compared to +0.7% in the national GDP. The most dynamic sectors within the three regions that experienced economic growth above the national average were Financial, Real Estate, and Professional Services in the Northwest (+3.2%), Agriculture in Central Italy (+5.2%), and Construction in Southern Italy (+4.1%). In terms of employment, Southern Italy experienced the most significant growth, with a 2.2% increase, followed by Central Italy (+1.8%). Employment increased more slowly in the Northwest (+1.6%) and Northeast (+0.9%). Construction was the sector in Southern Italy that experienced the most growth in 2024, with an increase in added value of 4.1% (+1.2% nationally). The Financial, Real Estate, and Professional Services sector also contributed to the region's good economic growth, accounting for a 2% gain in added value. In the Commerce, Public Services, Transportation, and Telecommunications sectors, added value rose above the national average (+0.6% vs. +0.1% overall). In 2024, the added value of Agriculture (+0.4%) registered only modest increases in comparison to the Center-North region, while it decreased in Industry and Other Services by 0.6% and 0.8%, respectively. In terms of employment, in 2024, the Construction sector was the most dynamic countrywide, with growth peaking in Southern Italy (+6.9%) and exceeding the national average in Central Italy (+4.2%). Commerce, Public Services, Transportation, and Telecommunications was another job-creating sector, with notably strong growth rates in the Northwest (+3.0%) and Southern Italy (+2.9%).
