New U.S. duties at 15% are a tax considered heavy by European automakers. Holding steady the EU's export figure to the United States in 2024 - 750,000 vehicles worth 38.5 billion euros - it means that the extra costs to be absorbed hover around 5 billion euros. They will weigh mainly on German brands, especially BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Audi, but not only. Other EU groups will also lose out, such as Stellantis, which has one of its legs in North America and in 2024 from Italy exported about 20,000 vehicles of the FIAT brands, such as the 500e produced in Mirafiori, Alfa Romeo, Dodge and Maserati to the US. Luxury also has to do the math, and Ferrari in March increased its price list by up to 10%. The weak dollar factor, affecting another 10%, does not help: “It's like 15% plus 10%,” says a financial manager, "margins are low, the repercussions will be felt.
