A list of statements presented as examples of hate speech against Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry has published a list that includes the words of institutional figures from 13 Western, EU and NATO countries, including those of President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. Specifically, Mattarella's words taken into account are those he uttered during a speech at the University of Marseille on February 5, during which he had compared the German Third Reich's wars of conquest and the Russian attack on Ukraine. The list, made public by the paper La Repubblica, also includes statements by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte (three statements), and European Union High Commissioner for Foreign Policy Kaja Kallas (seven statements). As for the United States, the only one quoted was Senator Lindsay Graham. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, has ordered the summons of the ambassador of the Russian Federation to Italy to question him about the inclusion of Mattarella and other institutional offices of the Italian Republic in the list. “Minister Tajani,” reads a Farnesina note, “considered it a provocation to the Republic and the Italian people and offered his institutional and personal solidarity to President Mattarella”.
