Italy’s first gold at the World Championships in Singapore comes from diving. Chiara Pellacani and Matteo Santoro won the mixed springboard synchro final, securing the world title with a score of 308.13, defeating Australians Cassiel Rousseau and Maddison Keeney, who took silver with 307.26, and, most importantly, defeating the Chinese team, who couldn't go any higher than 305.70. Already world runners-up last year and European runners-up this year, the two young Roman divers earned their eighth medal in mixed synchro across the World Championships, European Championships, and European Games. "This medal has incredible worth. We're very pleased. Winning it with Matteo is the cherry on top. The next goal is the individual event", said Chiara Pellacani right after the win. "There are so many emotions all at once that I can't put them all together, I'm overwhelmed," Matteo Santoro underlined. "There is joy, but also anxiety since we did not believe we would win. I'm delighted to join Chiara. I can't wait to start this experience. It will be like going to another home because Chiara and I have known each other since we were very little; our families are friends, and we go on vacation together, so everything feels natural". In swimming, Simone Cerasuolo won the gold medal in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 26.54, ahead of Russian swimmer Prigoda (silver) and China’s Qin (bronze). "I was hoping to win a medal, but it wasn't guaranteed. I proved to be extremely fast in the 50m breaststroke, but in the final, the strongest wins, not the fastest", he commented after his win. "I've become a solid athlete: I made some mistakes and there's room for improvement, but the important thing was to win", he said. "My family has instilled in me values that transcend sports, and I am honored to continue to uphold them".
