International tensions are making the military industry's fortune. Italy's Fincantieri is no exception, achieving 4.6 billion euros in revenues in six months, up 24 percent from the same period in 2024. Under the leadership of CEO Pierroberto Folgiero, Fincantieri has changed its skin, focusing on the most profitable sectors such as naval ships, those specialized for offshore (VARD) and diving, which is expected to generate 820 million euros in revenues by 2027. In detail, particularly driving revenues was the segment dedicated to shipbuilding, with a strong contribution from the defense sector (+48 percent). After the recent contract with the Indonesian ministry, Folgiero says the group is well positioned to seize other opportunities ranging from Saudi Arabia to Malaysia to European countries. Such as Poland, where it is “very busy” bidding for submarines in the Orka program. Also significant was the contribution of submarines (+83 percent), thanks to the consolidation from January 2025 of torpedoes and sensor technology from Wass Submarine Systems, which was taken over by Leonardo for 400 million euros.
