"We are proud of the employment outcomes that our nation continues to achieve. The latest data from Istat has once again verified the consistent growth in employment and the decrease in unemployment". This is what Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote on social media in response to the latest employment data published by Istat. The National Institute of Statistics (Istat) reported that the growth in employed and inactive individuals is correlated with a decrease in unemployment on a monthly basis as of June 2025. The increase in employed persons (+0.1%, or +16,000) includes women, permanent employees, the self-employed, and all age categories except those aged 35-49, who suffered a reduction; employment also decreased among males and temporary employees. The employment rate held steady at 62.9%. The fall of jobseekers (-4.2%, or 71,000) impacts both genders and spans all age categories. The unemployment rate decreases to 6.3% (-0.3 percentage points), with young unemployment falling to 20.1% (-1.4 percentage points). The number of inactive individuals between the ages of 15 and 64 has increased by 0.6%, or 69,000, affecting men and those under the age of 50. Conversely, the number of inactive individuals among women and those aged 50 and older is decreasing. The inactivity rate has risen to 32.8% (+0.2 percentage points). The growth in the number of employed individuals is also seen when comparing the second quarter of 2025 to the previous quarter (+0.4%, or 93,000 more than the first quarter of 2025). The number of jobseekers increased by 1.2%, or 20,000, in comparison to the previous quarter, while the number of inactive individuals aged 15-64 decreased by 0.7%, or 81,000. The Prime Minister also remarked that "we have great potential and will continue to support our businesses and the entire productive system with concrete measures. Italy deserves it, and our citizens deserve it".
