The appointment of Fulvio Macciardi as the director of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples was officially announced by Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli last night. This decision was made in accordance with the recommendation of three of the five members of the Foundation's Board of Directors. It is probable that this decision will provoke debate: Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, who is also the president of the Foundation, has announced an appeal to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) in dispute with the legitimacy of the meeting at which the decision was made. According to Manfredi, the Board did not formally convene, as the meeting had been cancelled due to an institutional commitment at Palazzo Chigi. Nevertheless, three members—two appointed by the Ministry of Culture and one by the Campania Region—continued with the nomination, selecting Macciardi, who was already serving as Superintendent of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. By signing the decree, Minister Giuli ended a months-long stalemate and effectively legitimized the actions of the three board members. This action promptly ignited new institutional and political tensions. The legal validity of the appointment has been questioned by San Carlo auditors, and the Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement have publicly acknowledged violations of the rules and forced appointments.
