According to a Codacons survey based on Istat data, summer vacations now cost an average of 30% more than they did prior to Covid. The most dramatic price rises are in air travel, with domestic tickets up 81.5% and international flights up 65.9%. Prices for railroads (+10.7%), ferries (+13.9%), and rental cars (+17.6%) are all increasing. Accommodation costs have soared as well: +40.6% for hotels and guesthouses, +22.7% for B&Bs and holiday homes. Package holidays are up 56.6%. Beaches, restaurants, and entertainment all follow the trend: a day at the beach costs 32.7% more, while a dinner at a restaurant costs 22.5% more. Even a basic aperitif is more expensive: alcoholic beverages are up 18.2%, while beer is up 17.2%.
