On Saturday, August 9th, during the height of tourist season, lifeguards on the Riviera Romagnola will strike for eight hours, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at beach clubs 36-37 and ending in Piazzale Boscovich. The union-led demonstration denounces unsustainable working conditions as a result of the regional ordinance that imposes shifts even during lunch breaks and doubles the length of beach each lifeguard must monitor, up to 300 meters. The unions warn of a specific safety risk: fewer workers, increased stress, and outdated equipment. "In emergencies, teamwork is needed," says David Maranghi, president of the Riviera Lifeguards, "but with the new schedule, everything is more difficult". Workers are requesting increased protection, new equipment, and serious dialogue with institutions.
