A busy day of international contacts for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who today held telephone talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. According to a statement from Palazzo Chigi, the central theme of the three conversations was the conflict in Ukraine. Meloni and her interlocutors discussed ongoing efforts to reach a cease-fire and to open a negotiating path capable of ensuring a “just and lasting” peace, also in light of the most recent diplomatic initiatives promoted by Washington. With the Emirati president, the dialogue also touched on cooperation between Italy and the Emirates in the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Both reiterated the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the release of hostages held by Hamas and full and unimpeded access to aid to address the current humanitarian emergency in the Strip.
