During Monterey Car Week, the world's premier automotive auction, a 1990 Ferrari F40 sold for an incredible $3,855,000. The Ferrari, chassis number 84036, was completed in February 1990 and delivered by the Ferrari distributor for Southeast Asia to its first and only owner. The car was never driven or serviced. The odometer shows only 360 kilometers, making it one of the most unique and pristine F40s ever to enter the market. Despite the long time of inactivity, a pre-sale leak test found good results, with only a 2% leak on all cylinders, proving the engine's reliability. However, the vehicle, which was purchased by an unidentified collector, requires a comprehensive refurbishment to be operational, from engine awakening to a full revision of the mechanical system. The sale includes the original tool kit and documentation. Created to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary and developed as an evolution of the 288 GTO to compete in FIA Group B, the F40 was the last car designed under the direct supervision of Enzo Ferrari.
