An Italian mountaineer lost his life in recent days on Pobeda Peak, the highest peak in the Tian Shan massif (7,439 meters) on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border. The man was participating in rescue efforts for Natalia Nagovitsyna, a 47-year-old Russian woman stranded on the mountain for a week with a broken leg. According to reports from the Italian Alpine Club, citing Kyrgyz Defense Ministry sources, the Italian man - whose personal details were not disclosed - had managed, along with a German mountaineer, to reach the woman, providing her with food and a stove. The two, forced to bivouac at high altitude, descended the next day but were caught in a storm. The Italian, suffering from hypothermia and severe frostbite on his hands, reportedly died of cerebral edema. Nagovitsyna's situation remains critical. Despite repeated attempts, including with helicopters, rescuers have not yet been able to reach her: the weather conditions and altitude make the operation extremely complex. According to local media, it will take at least four or five days to reach the accident area.
