New format, new opponents, same result: Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori once again reign supreme in New York. One year after their historic breakthrough, the Italian duo successfully defended their mixed doubles title at the US Open, the final Grand Slam tournament of the tennis season. Their run to the championship included victories over Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz (4–2, 4–2), Karolina Muchova and Andrey Rublev (4–1, 5–4 [7–4]), and the American alternate pair Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison (4–2, 4–2). In the final, played on the hard courts of Arthur Ashe Stadium, Errani and Vavassori edged past Poland’s Iga Swiatek and Norway’s Casper Ruud in a tense super tie-break, sealing the win 6–3, 5–7, 10–6 after just over ninety minutes. For the Italians, this marks a third Grand Slam trophy together. Following their US Open triumph in 2024, they also lifted the Roland Garros title earlier this June, before returning to New York to complete their back-to-back run. For Errani, the victory represents her ninth career Slam title—six in women’s doubles and three in mixed. It is also her third triumph at Flushing Meadows, having first celebrated here in 2012 alongside her longtime partner Roberta Vinci.
