With an investment of over €1.3 billion, the new-generation Frecciarossa 1000, the Italian Railways’ high-speed train, is about to be launched. The new ETR1000s, designed by Hitachi Rail and produced at the Pistoia and Naples production sites, will preserve their distinctive design and current livery while receiving important internal enhancements showcasing Made in Italy quality. The use of high-quality materials, ergonomic furnishings, and improved interior design will help to create a more welcoming environment that meets the expectations of modern tourists. On the technology front, the trains will be outfitted with innovative digital systems for journey management and on-board information. In addition to maintaining the standard speed of 300 kilometers per hour, the new trains will be much more reliable due to improved traction system efficiency. Trenitalia designed and manufactured the new generation Frecciarossa 1000 trains to operate not just in Italy but also on seven European rail networks, including France, Germany, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The investment comprises the delivery of 36 new trains, with an option for another 10. The first deliveries are expected for 2025, with an average of eight trains per year until 2028.
