Set for August 31 is the departure of the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international coordination of volunteers, nongovernmental organizations and ordinary people aiming to break the Israeli-imposed blockade of sea access to Gaza to bring aid to the Palestinian population. The initiative is joined by 44 delegations from as many countries such as Italy, France, Spain, the United Kingdom and Denmark. Also, to name a few: Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Kuwait. Dozens, perhaps hundreds of boats will carry supplies of food, medicines and other useful materials to support Palestinian people. In Italy, the ships will leave from Genoa on August 30 and from Sicily on September 4. The initiative is collecting donations to provide logistics and collection of humanitarian aid. A large popular mobilization is taking place in many Italian cities. In Genoa, for example, 45 tons of foodstuffs were collected in a few days to be loaded onto the fleet's boats.
