The import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the U.S. continues to grow even though Europe's commitment in the tariff negotiations with the U.S. administration to further increase overseas gas purchases is, for the time being, still in question. Data on LNG cargoes arriving in Italy in the first seven months of 2025 document, in fact, the sharp increase in gas arriving by ship from the States (47% of all LNG imported versus a “weight” of 34% in 2024). And a similar trend applies to Europe, which, like Italy, has chosen to emancipate itself from Russian gas. If, during the whole of 2024, 151 LNG cargoes had landed in Italy, in the time span from January to August 26 this year alone, 143 have already arrived in the peninsula. This is 95% of all those that arrived at Italian regasifiers in the whole of 2024. As for the countries of origin of the ships, the leadership of the United States clearly emerges, which is the first supplier to Italy with 67 cargoes, 47% of the total (compared to 34% last year), followed by Qatar with 33 cargoes (23% compared to 36% the year before) and Algeria with 28 cargoes (20%, as in 2024).
