At the conclusion of the general audience, Pope Leo XIV issued an appeal to the international community and the parties involved to resolve the conflict in the Holy Land, which he described as a source of "terror, destruction, and death". "I implore that all hostages be released, that a permanent ceasefire be established, that safe access for humanitarian aid be guaranteed, and that humanitarian law be fully respected," Leo XIV stated, underscoring the importance of the protection of civilians and the prohibition of collective punishment, indiscriminate use of force, and forced displacement. The Pope also joined the Patriarchs of Jerusalem, Theophilus III and Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, in their call to break the cycle of violence and prioritize the common good of all people.
