“Global Friendship Peace Hope”. Under this slogan in Rome until August 30, 1,200 students from universities in 12 European countries, with delegations also from Africa, Latin America and Asia, are participating in the international meeting of Youth for Peace. The movement linked to the Community of Sant'Egidio stands by children in distress, the homeless and the lonely elderly every day, engages in sustainable solidarity projects and has promoted solidarity vacations with refugees in camps in Cyprus and Greece during the summer months. From Ukraine - where the Community of Sant'Egidio continues to support the population with food and medical assistance - 120 boys and girls came to Rome. Together with their peers from other European countries, they will give voice to the “hopes of their generation” and discuss various issues - ecology, migration, poverty - to spread a culture of peace and solidarity, inspired by the witness of Blessed Floribert Bwana Chui, the young man from the Community of Sant'Egidio in Goma, Congo, martyred in 2007 because he opposed an attempt to corrupt the population and recently beatified.
