The Council of Ministers has definitively approved the reform of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced by Minister Antonio Tajani. The major goal is to reorganize the Ministry in response to international changes, with a special emphasis on foreign commerce, which accounts for more than 30% of the national GDP. According to Tajani, the new organization will have a "two-headed" approach, with both a political and an economic head, to support the government's objective of increasing Italian exports by up to €700 billion by 2027. Among the new features planned are a Directorate General for Growth, which will serve as a source of reference for enterprises, and a Directorate General for Security and Artificial Intelligence, which will concentrate on both political and technological elements of cybersecurity. The reform also seeks to simplify processes without incurring additional costs for the state. Tajani added that the goal is to improve the consular network, services for people abroad, Italian language schools, and projects such as "Travel Safe" by streamlining procedures and providing prompt services.
