Consumption of technology and leisure (where the digital component predominates) continues to rise: over the last three decades, per capita spending by Italian households on IT and mobile devices has increased by almost 3,000 %. The Confcommercio analysis describes trends using national averages. However, Italy remains a country with ups and downs, both technologically and digitally: despite the fact that nine out of ten households have connections, the digital divide has yet to be bridged. This year, 86.2% of Italian families have internet connectivity at home, up 2.5 percentage points from last year. Connectivity rises to 99.1% in families with at least one child and remains very strong (94.5%) in those with only non-elderly adults. However, for households made up entirely of adults over the age of 65, the rate falls to slightly more than 60%. Regional disparities continue to be substantial: the South's percentage of individuals who use the Internet frequently is 77.5%, seven percentage points lower than that of the North.
