The Italian Red Cross, following a request from the Italian Embassy in Amman, has taken charge of a minor from Gaza starting on August 27. On the flight to Rome Fiumicino, which brought 17-year-old Yassine—injured in the leg—to Italy, there were also other passengers from the conflict zone. Three of them, together with the boy, were transferred from Rome to Bologna in transport organized by the Italian Red Cross. “We are happy to have supported Yassine on this journey which, I imagine, must be filled with emotion for him. He arrived in Italy leaving behind part of his family in Gaza, a land where International Humanitarian Law is not respected, where lack of access to aid and hunger cause death, and where violence knows no pause and shows no respect for life. In the Strip, civilians are targeted—as are health facilities, humanitarian workers, and journalists. At a time when attacks are intensifying, we once again stress the importance of guaranteeing safe access to aid and healthcare for the entire population, and of ensuring respect and dignity for those who suffer, without distinction,” declared Rosario Valastro, President of the Italian Red Cross, after the arrival of the young man from Gaza in Italy.
